Sathish Bala, CEO/FOUNDER

With a background in computer science and business, Sathish Bala founded NewAge Inc. and with Great success NewAge Inc was chosen one of Profits Magazines Hot 50 emerging growth companies, and the Canadian Tamil Chamber of Commerce named Sathish, 2004 Young Entrepreneur of the year.

After 13 years, Newage Inc. has now re-branded itself to become blueband media. Sathish's passion for strategy and problem solving mixed with the love for the Internet drive him to continue pushing forward extraordinary ideas that propel client brands.

This motivation alongside his passion for music has birthed the RBC desiFEST, which has provided a national platform for South Asian artists across Canada, for the past three years. His continued success in both the marketing field and music world, proves the success of a true visionary.

Chris Gostling, Creative Director

Chris is the creative director for RBC desiFEST as well as the stage manager for all three national shows. Chris has been working in the Marketing & Advertising world for over 8 years, and has been writing and playing music for over 17 years.

Mandy Maghera, Artist Manager

Mandy currently works as a political advisor to the Ontario Minister of Small Business and Consumer Services.

She has extensive political experience dating back ten years. She has worked with Canadian Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Industry and Infrastructure Canada. She developed and accompanied the Industry Minister on a trade mission to India and Pakistan and most recently was the National tour Director for a federal leadership candidate for the Liberal Party of Canada.

She has served on many boards and commissions including six years on the National Indo-Canadian Council and two terms as President of the Young Liberals of Manitoba.

Nila Mistry, Production Manager

While working on her undergrad at McMaster University Nila found herself hosting many dinners and parties for friends during her spare time. After graduating from McMaster she found herself building a career in Special Events in the Hospitality industry. After 5 plus years of serving, bartending and event planning on the restaurant side of the industry, she decided to make the change to media where she worked under the Special Events & Hospitality department with CHUM Ltd/ CTVgm.

Currently Nila works with CTV under the Corporate Communications department.

As an expert on food, beverage, logistics and production, Nila's passion for creating experiences comes through as a freelance event producer, working on events from music festivals, galas, grand openings, golf tournaments and weddings.

Raoul Juneja, Guest MC Manager

Raoul Juneja (a.k.a. Deejay Ra) is one of Canada's foremost personalities in the fields of urban and South Asian entertainment. He has produced numerous music and film projects through his Lyrical Knockout Entertainment company, including a chart-topping album with Universal Music, a single benefiting Mothers Against Drunk Driving, and a documentary for the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund.

Raoul is also founder of 'Hip-Hop Literacy' high school and college campaign, for which he's worked with Hollywood celebrities like Michael Madsen, Nancy Sinatra and Stan Lee among many others. A leading commentator on youth culture, he has appeared on numerous radio and TV stations across the country, and has contributed to a variety of print media.

Kamdar, Vendor Manager

The most well-known and most respected name in South Asian Community has to be that of Kamdarji.

No South Asian event is complete without the robust and energetic presence. His ability to bring various mouth tasting food vendors and market spot placement is remarkable. The visitor who attend the festival enjoys shopping and eating different foods, enjoys the festival to its fullest potential.

Kamdarji so popular among all age group due to his wise and humorous disposition and is an asset to Desifest.

Vijay Sappani, Sponsorship Director

Vijay is a Toronto based political and community activist. Vijay manages all sponsorship and political affairs for RBC desiFEST. Vijay is one of the founding and active current board member of UMA Foundation, United Tamil council of Canada, South Asian Professional Network for Awareness and Rural Empowerment Program. He also sits on the Ontario Pharmacy Council board.He has been on the boards of many organizations in the area of Business, Professional, Health,Charitable and Political and the founding chair of Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals and co founder of Asha for Education, Canada.

Vijay brings a lot of passion and excitement to RBC desiFEST in an attempt to promote and integrate South Asian Canadian arts and artists. Vijay holds a Bachelors in Pharmacy and a post Grad in Marketing and works for a major Pharmaceutical company.

About RBC desiFest

RBC desiFEST is Canada’s only national south asian music festival. Our vision is to create mainstream opportunities for South Asian artists and South Asian inspired music. Through RBC desiFEST, we are helping to strengthen local communities, inspire youth and support the ARTS community in Canada.


The festival went National visiting three cities. Our expansion cities included, Montreal and Vancouver. RBC desiFEST Vancouver took place in the historic Gastown. Over 5000 people, over 26 bands and dancers, local celebrities and government officials helped to make our Vancouver launch a huge success. RBC desiFEST Toronto was held on May 31st at Yonge and Dundas Square. For 2 years in a row, RBC desiFEST set new records for crowd turnout and artists programming. Over 130,000 visitors and 26,000 engaged visitors enjoyed 32 incredible bands for 12 hours.


2009 objectives,

Work with amazing people and partners to continue expanding RBC desiFEST across Canada.
Help instill a sense of civic and national pride and strengthen foundations for a homegrown star structure by showcasing the wealth of Canadian talent in our communities and unearthing and celebrating our rich cultural histories.


Nurture the continued growth of art, music, and culture by actively engaging the public, but youth especially, in authentic and interactive representations and experiences.


RBC desiFEST 2009 has expanded to include Ottawa, Montreal, Vancouver and Toronto.
